District Report for Augusta District
9/19/08
The Augusta District had several members to attend the ASPAN conference in Texas in May.  Sue Andrews,
Sarah Gillen, Leslie Edney, Monica Anadu, Margaret Jonson, and Jane Moore.  Everyone enjoyed the
learning opportunities, networking, and recreational activities that were available.

GAPAN participated in the CSRA Spirit of Nursing Award recipient.

Because of multiple difficulties in scheduling speakers and agreeing on a date, the Augusta District had an
electronic meeting on August 29th.  Sarah Gillen, Vice President, searched and located sites offering free
on-line contact hours (over 40 hours available) that were attached to the meeting.  We mailed out a hard copy
of the information to those members for whom we did not have a current e-mail address.  I also attempted to
contact those members by phone.  The members responded to this very positively with 20 members
responding electronically and one by phone.  We also held our election on-line with 17 members voting.  Our
officers for 2008-2009 are:
President: Susan Andrews
Vice President: Janice Wilson
Secretary: Monica Anadu
Treasurer: Leslie Edney

The Augusta District met on Saturday, October 21, 2007 in the small auditorium of the Medical College of
Georgia.  15 members attended and refreshments were served.  The educational session, "Research: It
doesn't have to leave a bad taste." was provided by Sarah Gillen, Vice-president.  Sue Andrews and Karen
Catchings, President, assisted with having the group conduct a mini-research project consisting of a taste test
comparing different candy.  The group enjoyed the interactive learning session.  Contact hours were awarded
for the session.  The next meeting is scheduled for Feb 9.2008.

January 26, 2007

I am pleased to update you as to the activities of the Augusta District.  The first meeting of the fiscal year was
held November 10, 2006.  The business meeting commenced at 0815 and was attended by 13 members.  At
the meeting, several issues were addressed.  We voted upon our charitable contributions and decided to
contribute to the Golden Harvest Food Bank as well as contribute to the Empty Stocking Fund.  In addition to
this, increasing membership was discussed at length.  This discussion included debate on increasing
participation with current members versus recruiting new members and which process would be a better tactic.
A willingness to serve request was presented and Susan Andrews and Jane Moore volunteered to head up a
committee to meet and develop a letter to invite current non-participating members to the meeting in
February.  They were encouraged to bring a non-member friend.  The hope is to develop an organizational
champion at the hospitals that do not have good representation at the business meetings and educational
offerings.  This committee met and sent out the letters.  We are hoping to have an increase in participation at
our February meeting.

Our next meeting is scheduled for 10 February 2006.  Attendance for this 3 contact hour offering is free to
members of GAPAN if preregistered, and $10 at the door.  Non-member registration is $20.
The agenda is:
