We have been active on several fronts. We have continued to put out our quarterly news- letter. Our fall quarterly meeting was held on November 15, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. Our speakers were, Will Barron, drug representative from Sanofi Aventis, who updated us on Lovenox. Our second speaker was Dr. George Zimmerman from the St. Francis Orthopedic Institute, who spoke on “A New Approach to Total Joint Replacement Surgery”. Our service project was held at the Columbus Regional Library. We collected personal care items and delivered them to several shelters in the Columbus area. The amount of items and the turnout of nurses and friends to assist in the bagging and delivery of those items were outstanding! Our special test site for CPAN and CAPA was cancelled. We did not have the applicants necessary to maintain that site. We will look at requesting a test site again in 2008. Our winter quarterly meeting will be held on February 21st, 2008, 6 PM at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus. Kate Gagnon is the chairperson and organizer for that meeting. The speaker will be Amy Glover, RN, MSN of the I-Flow Corporation. The discussion will be the On-Q Pain Buster pump. CEUs are pending. The Central district is also one of the four districts hosting the 2008 State conference, which will be held at Calloway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. The dates are September 19-21st, 2008. The topic was “Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia”. We had a great speaker and delicious dinner prepared by the country club staff. The Columbus/ Central District hosted the ASPAN Certification Review Seminar on February 24, 2007 at the Four Points Sheraton in Columbus, Georgia. This event was very successful and well attended, with speakers for CAPA and CPAN. There were 10 people tentatively interested in taking the certification tests in Columbus. We will be applying for a special test site in the fall. Our spring meeting was held on May 30, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. Our goals are to increase membership and participation, and to start an internet newsletter for the newly formed Central District. We look forward to an exciting year and hope to add at least 10 newly certified perianesthesia nurses to our organization.
