District Report for South Metro District
SOUTH METRO DISTRICT
GAPAN STATE REPORT
September 2007 – January 2008

Our first meeting of the year was held in Southern Regional Hospital, Riverdale
Georgia. We paid silent tribute to the numerous  heros  of September 9-11.  We
recognized new members and visitors.
The new officers presiding at this meeting  are :
President             Gretchen Konas

President Elect      Vickie Jeffries

Past President       Shirley Primus

Secretary              Susan Hartsfield

Treasurer              Berlenthia Jones

Lynn Jones presented the “New Member Packets” that she has compiled.  These
will be used as marketing
tools to use when visiting less activity components of our district. Gretchen Konas
visited South Fulton Medical center and Vickie Jeffries visited Henry General with
goodies and an ASPAN storyboard.
Our annual outreach to the community concludes in November.  We then compile
items for personal care
kits that are distributed through Hope Health clinic in Griffin, Georgia.   We had
over !00 complete kits for 2008.
Barbara Woodward will chair a committee for our PANAW week celebration. We
decided to have three
beautiful PANAW posters made for each of the hospitals in the district.
We discussed hosting a district seminar. A committee was formed but deferred to
next term. Many of our
members are contributing to the 2008 State Conference in September at Calloway
Gardens.  The South Metro district is responsible for the “Silent Auction” , the
APAN forms are now available for use to businesses.
Our May meeting is historically a dinner meeting sans educational offering.  Linda
Claxton spearheads this
fun activity.  In lieu of a district conference, ideas for fund-raisers were discussed.
Our goal is to make our meetings as fun and profitable as possible.  Contact hours
were awarded for two of our
three educational offerings.  In September, Dr Gupta presented Obstructive
Sleep Apnea.  Andrew Zieman fascinated us with a talk about “Pediatric Care- KIDS
RULE” AT Spalding Regional Hospital.  Then our January meeting explored
reconstructive jaw therapy with Dr. Perciaccante at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.  We
continue to rotate our meeting sites among the hospitals.
We continue to solicit membership for our meetings, GAPAN  State Meeting and the
ASPAN National Conference in May.
Respectfully submitted

Sock project- With the American Legion and VA Hospital is on ongoing project. 80
pairs of Slipper Socks were donated.

At our November meeting we prepared Christmas bags for another of our ongoing
projects with personal items and care kits for the Hope Health Clinic located in
Griffin, GA.  This year we donated 281 kits which contained shampoo, conditioner,
lotions, tooth paste and brushes, tissues, deodorant and soap, shower caps and
feminine products.  These kits were delivered in December and greatly appreciated.

In the process of putting together New Member folders to be given to those who
join us giving them information on national, state, and local district- regarding what
we are about, what we do, educational opportunities- still have a few more details
and paperwork to put in the folders.

Susan Hartfield, RN, will be leaving on a mission trip to Liberia Feb 25- March 20
of this year.  Southmetro donated $100.

Very informative meeting at Piedmont Fayette Hospital held on Jan 16.  2 speakers
Lena Slaughter from the Fayette Samaritans which is an All-volunteer organization
that assist Fayette Country residents and transients with emergency needs.  They
provide food, clothing, and financial assistance to all who are in need.  Work is
strictly from volunteers who give from 3-120 hours per month.

Also from one of our members, Gretched Konas who has helped form The Feed My
People organization in Stockbridge, GA.  They also provide food and clothing to
people in need and both these organizations need volunteers.  We are encouraging
our members to get involved, donate, and volunteer to work in these organizations.

In order to get new members and the hospitals in our district to join us we have
formed a committee to organize meetings at their hospital to see if that will
encourage them to participated and maybe get some interest in GAPAN.

Celebrate PANAW by putting up posters in all hospitals and giving members
certificates.
