Throughout the year several awards are presented to members of GAPAN.  These awards
are based on merit and are determined through an application process.  The awards exist
on the national, state, and district level.  Awards will be highlighted as they are present.
Gold Leaf Award
This national award recognizes the state level organization for completing several tasks which
encompass the mission of ASPAN.  This application process is yearly.  It is the responsibility of the
Immediate-Past President to submit the application to ASPAN by the deadline.

GAPAN Awards

Subject:  PeriAnesthesia Nurse of the Year                                Policy # 05-100

Effective Date:  September, 2003, Revised 2006

Policy Statement:  It shall be the Policy of the Georgia Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses
(GAPAN) to establish criteria for the PeriAnesthesia Nurse of the Year award.  This award is
given to recognize and support excellence in perianesthesia nursing practice.

Purpose

•        To recognize the contribution and dedication to the field of perianesthesia nursing by an
individual.

•        To provide an opportunity for education of a dedicated nursing professional through a
scholarship towards ASPAN’s National Conference.

Eligibility

Registered Nurses from any phase of perianesthesia nursing who meet the following criteria are
eligible for the scholarship.  The applicant must:

•        Be currently employed in perianesthesia nursing with a minimum of 2 (two) full years
experience in any phase of perianesthesia nursing.

•        Be an active member of ASPAN and GAPAN for the past 2 (two) full years prior to the
application deadline.

•        Not be a current member of GAPAN’s Executive Board of Directors at the time of the
application.

•        Not be a previous GAPAN Perianesthesia Nurse of the Year recipient.

Selection

•        The Executive Board of GAPAN will review and evaluate the applications and select the
scholarship recipient using an objective point system.

•        The scholarship is awarded with the understanding that the same fees are not covered by
any other source (employer, other organizations, etc.).  

•        The scholarship must be used within 2 (two) years of receipt.

•        The scholarship recipient will be announced at GAPAN’s State Seminar.

•        The decision of the Executive Board is final.
