| An Open Letter from the Member-at-large, Membership January 12, 2009 Dear respected GAPAN Members, I want to thank you all for your support of the Georgia Association of Perianesthesia Nursing Organization. I am in my 2nd year as Member-at-Large Membership for GAPAN. I am learning more about my role and trying to reach out to the members. I am excited about 2009 and the opportunities we will encounter! I hope this letter will encourage you and let you know that I really do want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with GAPAN because together we make a great team. The website (www.ga-pan.org) will help keep you in touch with your organization. It contains a great deal of helpful information. There is a list of the District Presidents and their emails so that you can contact them about upcoming local meetings or planned seminars. Attending these events may provide you with needed continuing education credits or may just keep you informed and connected to your organization. Take advantage of these occasions if at all possible since some of your dues help fund these local educational events. You are also welcome to travel to other District’s meetings and seminars to meet other members and hear different educational topics. The website also has our Bylaws and Policy and Procedures, helpful if you want to run for an office on the Board of Directors or are just interested. At the January Board meeting, one of the items we discussed was having a “Retreat” where new district level board members can meet and greet with the present state officers and discover what being a Board Member is all about. I have learned so much and appreciate what GAPAN stands for in regards to Nursing Education and Research and Purpose. There is also a link to GAPAN on the ASPAN website, (www.aspan.org). This is where you can see what is happening on a national scale for Perianesthesia nurses. If you are interested in a CPAN and CAPA certification (beginning April 6, 2009) ABPANC will launch its computer-based testing for the examinations. For more information, the ABPANC website is (www.cpancapaorg). Personally, after obtaining my CAPA certification it has helped me save lives and be more in tune with my patients (they are my favorite part about nursing). This year’s state conference will be held in Atlanta . September 18-20, 2009. I hope to see you there! Sincerely, Diane Sherman, Member-at-Large Membership |
